What’s happening at Rooibos Ltd?

The last of this season’s Rooibos has been harvested and the company is satisfied with the quality of the 2012 harvest. However, the company does have the capacity to process a bigger harvest. So says Johan Brand, Technical Manager of Rooibos Ltd.

To transfer skills, Rooibos Ltd presented a practical workshop on how to grow sustainable seedlings. This workshop was attended by small farmers from Wupperthal and Driefontein.

Rooibos Ltd is also involved in the growing and transplanting of Rooibos seedlings. Rooibos seedlings are transplanted between June and August every year. To date, perfect weather conditions have turned 2012 into an ideal year for growing and transplanting seedlings. Rooibos Ltd is also involved in preparations for an organic Rooibos seedling nursery.

Meanwhile, the company is taking part in area planning and land-use mapping in which three parties are involved, namely the Department of Agriculture, farmers from the Nardouwsberg area and Rooibos Ltd. A meeting was held on 11 April 2012 and this was attended by LandCare officers of the Department of Agriculture as well as farmers from the Nardouwsberg area.  This will be followed up with one-to-one meetings between the consultant and land owners in order to ensure confidentiality.
