Lose weight in spring with Rooibos
Purity, detoxify, rejuvenate

Baden-Baden, 23 March 2012

In spring, when the first warm rays of the sun appear and topcoats make way for skirts, many people start to detox and fast. To start spring radiantly, they quickly have to get rid of unnecessary weight gained during winter. Rooibos is the perfect companion for this as it tastes good and offers health benefits to the body. With over 200 health-promoting phyto-chemicals and essences, Rooibos awakens the body and supports the liver’s metabolism functions. Rooibos is also ideal for those who use sports to speed up their detoxification as it provides the body with many minerals and trace elements. A cup of Rooibos captures the uniqueness of South Africa as this is the only place on earth where this red bush grows. Rooibos needs to be nurtured by the sandy soil and hot climate of this fascinating country. This South African product offers an ideal way to start spring in an unencumbered way.

There is virtually no other herbal tea in which the combination of secondary plant phenols is as diverse as in Rooibos. The zinc content and the alpha-hydroxy-acids in Rooibos boost the metabolism of the skin and help to get rid of tiny wrinkles. Rooibos is also the only plant to contain the rare flavonoid aspalathin – a valuable antioxidant that supports the immune system. But it is not only the skin that benefits from the health-promoting agents of this red bush, it is also the liver. Numerous studies have shown that Rooibos promotes the detoxification function of the liver. The regular consumption of Rooibos therefore contributes to natural purification and also reduces cholesterol, triglycerides and free fatty acids in the blood. This, in turn, helps the liver to process fat.

One tip is green Rooibos. This variant of the South African national drink is made from the same plant, namely Rooibos Aspalathus linearis. The cultivation and harvesting of red and green Rooibos is initially the same. But unlike in the red variety, the oxidation process in the green Rooibos is prevented. Hence, green Rooibos has a higher concentration of flavonoids, antioxidants and other nutrients. Therefore, green Rooibos in particular has a revitalising effect on the skin. That is why South Africans can make a fresh start in spring.

In April 2005, the South African Rooibos Council (SARC) was established as a non-profit company. SARC represents the interests of South African Rooibos producers in their own country and internationally, and is responsible for, among others, public relations and research. Currently, some 300 farmers are growing Rooibos. These include small farmers and cooperatives. South African Rooibos production provides work to some 5000 people. Approximately 12000 tons of Rooibos are produced annually. Of this, almost 5000 tons are consumed by South Africans while the rest is exported to around 140 countries.
