Fair Cape Dairies’ Rooiboost drinking yoghurt gets global recognition

Rooiboost, a Rooibos-containing drinking yoghurt produced and manufactured by Fair Cape Dairies, achieved first place in the category Communicating science-related knowledge to consumers aimed at improving their lifestyle at the 2012 Global Food Industry Awards. Qualifying criteria for this award includes a company’s ability to communicate science-related knowledge to consumers, aimed at improving their lifestyle. One shot of Fair Cape’s Rooiboost contains the same amount of cancer-fighting antioxidant glutathione than 6 cups of Rooibos.

The awards event for the Global Food Industry Awards, a competition hosted by the International Union of Food Science and Technology, took place at the Nitida Wine Estate in Durbanville on 12 November 2012. The 2012 World Congress brought together approximately 4 000 participants from various industries, governments, academic institutions and research institutes from around the world.

Research studies have shown that drinking six cups of Rooibos a day increases the body’s natural cancer-fighting antioxidant, called glutathione, by 60% to 80% to help the body fight off cancer. However, drinking six cups of tea a day is not always possible. Therefore, Fair Cape developed Rooiboost which contains six cups’ worth of Rooibos in one 100 ml shot.
Studies have also shown that the daily intake of Rooiboost can help to decrease cholesterol, protect the liver, maintain healthy teeth and bones, support healthy skin and ease numerous skin diseases.

“This is a magnificent achievement and further encourages us at Fair Cape to continue to strive towards being better than World Class,” says Louis Loubser, Fair Cape Dairies’ Marketing Director.
