Rooibos Ltd gives prize money for Bokkeveld Conservancy's potjiekos competition

During the April school holidays, a sports event was organised for the children of Nieuwouldtville. This formed part of the Bokkeveld Conservancy's community development programme. The Bokkeveld Conservancy is a community initiative, by the people of Nieuwoudtville for the people of Nieuwoudtville, to promote environmental conservation, eco-tourism and community development.

Older children participated in various netball, soccer, cricket and touch rugby games while kids from the Kabouterland crèche took part in mini-athletics.

But a sports event goes hand in hand with a potjiekos competition. This afforded 12 teams with an opportunity to compete and network and at the same time provide lunch for the children. Judges Hettie McGregor and Joey Warrington announced Hantam Municipality as the winner, followed by Oorlogskloof Nature Reserve and Davian Pieterse. EMG produced the most original potjie while Heiveld Tee came up with the most creative potjie. The other participants were Swiss Villa Guest House, Nieuwoudtville Clinic, Nieuwoudtville Police, Kabouterland, Nantes 7, Clara Cheymol and Indigo. Two community pots were donated by Oorlogskloof Nature Reserve and Willemsrivier Guest Farm to provide enough food for the more than 200 children participating in the event.

Rooibos Ltd sponsored the prizes for the potjiekos competition: R1000 for the first prize, R600 for the second prize and R400 for the third prize. Arend Kotzé, director on Rooibos Ltd's board of directors, handed over the prizes on behalf of the company.

Mandie Kotzé, chairperson of the Bokkeveld Conservancy, said the event was the culmination of proper planning, hard work, generous donations and community involvement. She thanked Rooibos Ltd for its contribution to the success of the event.
