Rooibos Ltd sponsors Klein Jakkalsies Maths Diary for primary school learners
When Ernst Bongers approached Rooibos Ltd for financial assistance to produce a mathematics diary for learners from Grades 4 to 7, the company immediately saw the value of this initiative aimed at helping learners to master basic mathematics. The first batch of booklets was delivered to the Graafwater Primary School, some 35 km to the west of Clanwilliam.
Says Gerda de Wet, Communication Manager at Rooibos Ltd: "Grasping numbers is needed to live a better life. We need to understand numbers to budget, to compare, to solve problems and to make better decisions – even to understand a recipe or work out how much petrol we need for a trip. These skills must be taught from early on. That is why Rooibos Ltd is supporting this initiative."
The booklets were introduced to the teachers and the learners' parents, and they were asked to encourage the children to use this booklet as it will help the children to perform better and change their attitude towards maths. The school principal, Mr Williams, who also teaches maths at the school, said the booklets are practical and user-friendly, and filled with tables, tests and examples. Mr Williams undertook to provide Rooibos Ltd with comprehensive feedback on how the learners have experienced this educational booklet after having used it for a period of time. This initiative will be rolled out to other schools.
